System and school leaders play a critical role in creating a mentally healthy environment for students. One important component is to develop mental health literacy to identify and respond to mental health concerns among students and staff.

MH LIT – Mental Health in Action for System Leaders

This MH LIT course is designed to deepen system leaders’ understanding of the interconnection between learning and mental health, and to enhance their capacity to lead in this critical area.

MH LIT – Mental Health in Action for School Administrators

This course has been updated to align with the Leading Mentally Healthy Schools ebook. The course provides foundational information administrators can use to support the mental health and well-being of students.

Leading Mentally Healthy Schools is a suite of resources that describe the core components of developing, operating and sustaining mentally healthy schools in Ontario.

MH LIT: Student Mental Health in Action

MH LIT: Student Mental Health in Action is a series of lessons to support the development of basic mental health knowledge and help-seeking skills. The lessons are designed for use with secondary students, focusing on building their understanding of mental health and mental illness, signs of mental health problems, and how/where to access help when needed

MH LIT – Mental Health in Action for Educators

The MH LIT – Mental Health in Action for Educators course is designed to provide educators with basic knowledge and information related to mental health, strategies to enhance student mental health, and everyday practices for use in the classroom.

Tools and resources to promote mental health literacy 

System leaders are key to sharing information effectively. SMH-ON is the primary source of evidence-informed mental health resources and professional learning in Ontario. Mental health promotion is a shared responsibility, and so tools and resources available on the SMH-ON website equip staff at all levels with ready-to-use free materials.
