What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

Our contact form is custom built. The information you provide is sent to our School Mental Health Ontario general email address for the purpose of responding to your request and providing service to you. Your request might be forwarded to different members of our team. It’s then stored in our email service, O365.

Subscription forms

We use Active Campaign for our email subscription service. When you sign up for our email newsletter, your data is stored on Active Campaign’s secure servers in the United States. We use the personal information you share to provide relevant information to you. You can unsubscribe at any time. When you unsubscribe, your information remains in the database, but won’t be used to contact you. If you want your information to be deleted from the database, please contact us.

Use of cookies

Most major websites use cookies. They’re a small text file that’s placed on your computer to help the website remember your preferences. You can disable the use of cookies by changing settings in your website browser. Disabling cookies could affect your experience with some sites.

We store a cookie in your browser for one hour that indicates you have accepted the disclaimer that pops up about an emergency.

In the future, we plan to store cookie information about your preferred language (English or French). It will expire 30 days after your initial visit.

Who else has access to your browsing data

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand the traffic on our site. Google Analytics provides information about user behaviour but does not identify individual users. The Google Analytics service transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages of our site may include embedded content. For example, we embed content from Twitter and Youtube. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

Your contact information and comments received through the contact form may be stored in our contacts and email folders in O365 indefinitely.

If you’d like to be deleted from our contacts, please let us know.
