Stress Management and Coping Virtual Field Trips
The virtual field trips are a series of six lessons per division that support students’ development of stress management and coping skills. Each lesson includes a minds-on activity, a pre-recorded virtual field trip session and a consolidation activity.
Background and suggestions for use
These lessons were created in 2021 in partnership with Ophea. Explicit skill development is an essential part of bolstering positive student mental health, and aligns with what we heard from Ontario secondary students during the #HearNowON consultations:
- They wished they learned about mental health when they were younger.
- They want to learn about mental health at school and prefer that this learning be frequent, early and varied.
- They want to learn strategies to help them manage and cope with stress
The lessons can be used together as a series or individually. We’ve offered six lessons to demonstrate various stress management and coping strategies, as different strategies work for different individuals.
For elementary divisions, each lesson plan includes connections to curriculum expectations. For secondary, the lessons may be used as part of any course to support students in finding strategies that work for them.
