MI: Supporting the intersection of attendance and mental health
A Motivational Interviewing (MI) approach for supporting student mental health concerns and school attendance.
This training is intended for regulated school mental health professionals (SMHPs) and their managers who support students experiencing mental health related challenges with attendance concerns.
This training provides guidance for SMHPs supporting students experiencing challenges with attendance related to mental health concerns including school re-entry, periods of waiting for community-based care, and inconsistent attendance patterns related to anxiety and mood disorders. This guidance will be rooted in the spirit of Motivational Interviewing, using the four tasks and communication skills to support students in developing a plan to reach their goals around attendance.
