Using an Identity-Affirming Approach for School Mental Health Professionals

How to use the IA School Mental Health Frame to support building an identity-affirming approach to your school mental health practice.

SMH-ON is pleased to offer a Fireside chat to support you with your journey to Critical Self Reflection and Cultural Humility. The launch of SMH-ON’s version of the Cultural Humility Self Reflection Tool supports our individual learning and engagement toward further developing self-awareness. This session explores the impact implicit bias may have on our work in schools. This session will intentionally centre the student’s identity and well-being as required in offering services and supports.

These sessions are for regulated School Mental Health Professionals to begin the internal work that is critical for offering Identity affirming mental health supports. This opportunity will support school mental health professionals within a safe non-judgmental space to further explore how to offer culturally responsive mental health services in Ontario schools.

Audience: School mental health professionals, Managers of SMHP, Mental health leadership teams

Language: The presentation will be delivered in English. Materials and breakout rooms will be available in English and French.

For more information or to register, contact your school board’s mental health leader.
