School Mental Health Ontario is pleased to offer Level 1 Foundational Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Identity-Affirming (CBT-IA) Training.

This foundational CBT-IA training is an introduction to theory and components of CBT from an identity-affirming practice. It prepares School Mental Health Professionals (SMHP) for CBT practice, working with students at Tier 2 and early Tier 3 levels (mild to moderate mental health challenges) in the following ways:

incorporating a blend of CBT theory, concepts, strategies and practicesupporting the SMHP in their own Cultural Humility journeyidentifying concerns, issues and considerations for applying identity-affirming practice to a CBT practiceproviding numerous ready to use worksheets for the SMHP to use in session with the studentproviding demonstration and application of CBT-IA through role plays & student examples, especially as it pertains to substance misuse/addictions

This foundational CBT-IA training is designed for SMHPs with minimal knowledge of CBT concepts, or those who have not consistently applied CBT in their work.

The goal is to prepare SMHPs to use CBT-IA with students while continuing their Cultural Humility journey. Continued knowledge exploration and participation in SMH-ON Community of Practice sessions can further enhance this 2-day foundational training.
