Join a Focus Group on School Mental Health Care

Are you a student in grades 5–12 who’d like to share your thoughts on mental health care? You’re invited to join a focus group about which tools/measures (e.g., which sets of questions) are used in school mental health settings and how.

Calling all Ontario students!

Researchers from McMaster University, the Offord Centre for Child Studies , and School Mental Health Ontario are doing a study to find out how to use tools and measures in Ontario school mental health care. We want to hear from you about:

  1. what should be measured when students are seeing school mental health clinicians,
  2. which tools (e.g., which sets of questions) should be used, and
  3. how feedback from measures should be shared back with clinicians and youth.

Who can participate?

Any students from grades 5 to 12 in Ontario.

What is involved?

You will be asked to:

  1. join up to four virtual focus groups to share your thoughts and feedback, and
  2. fill out online surveys after each group to share your opinions and experience.

What do I get for participating?

You will get a $25 gift card of your choice from a range of options for every focus group that you come to (1.5 hours each) and $5 for every survey that you fill out. These gift cards will be sent to you by email about 1 week after the focus group or survey.

When are these focus groups happening?

The first focus group is set to take place in July 2024. The last focus group will be in Spring 2025.

Your participation in this study would be highly valuable. Being a part of this study is completely your choice, and you have the right to withdraw at any time without consequence.

Want to participate or have questions?

If you’re interested in participating or have questions, email the study coordinator, Dr. Nicole Dryburgh, at dryburn@mcmaster.ca. We are happy to answer any questions you have!

This study has been reviewed by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board under Project #17181.

Thank you for considering this invitation.
