Join School Mental Health Ontario’s Newcomer Parent & Caregiver Resource Development Group

The Newcomer Parent & Caregiver Resource Development group provides space for newcomer parents and caregivers to share their expertise and work collaboratively with School Mental Health Ontario. As part of the group, you will have the opportunity to co-design and co-develop resources to support newcomer parent/caregiver mental health learning.

What is the Newcomer Parent and Caregiver Resource Development Group?

A volunteer group of newcomer parents and caregivers working with SMH-ON to:

  • co-design and co-develop mental health learning resources for newcomer parents and caregivers.
  • help identify gaps in existing mental health resources for newcomer students and families.
  • offer insight on culturally responsive ways to engage families in conversations about mental health and well-being.
  • amplify the voices of newcomer parents and caregivers to inform the work we do in creating identity-affirming resources and supports.

The group will meet three to four times from April-June 2026.

Why join?

Who is eligible?

All newcomer parents and caregivers with children in publicly funded schools in Ontario who are interested in informing and co-developing resources to support student and family mental health can apply.

We are pleased to offer the Newcomer Parent/caregiver Collaboration Resource Development Group in both English and French.

Your lived experiences and knowledge are essential in helping us shape mental health learning resources that respond to the realities and priorities of newcomer families and students across Ontario.

The group aims to be a supportive space where everyone can meaningfully contribute and learn from one another.
