Le fait d\u2019avoir des comp\u00e9tences m\u00e9tacognitives bien aiguis\u00e9es entra\u00eene une augmentation de l\u2019engagement cognitif qui se caract\u00e9rise par le niveau d\u2019investissement d\u2019un \u00e9l\u00e8ve dans son propre apprentissage, et comprend l\u2019adoption d\u2019une attitude de r\u00e9flexion et de d\u00e9termination dans l\u2019approche des t\u00e2ches scolaires et d\u2019une disposition \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer les efforts n\u00e9cessaires pour comprendre des id\u00e9es complexes ou \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser des comp\u00e9tences difficiles (Fredericks et al., 2005; Fredericks et al., 2004).
