Discuss and identify when it is necessary to seek the help of an adult.<\/p>\n<p>Create a list of steps to engage in when involved in disagreements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Identify the issue<\/strong> \u2013 what do we disagree about (e.g. an opinion, goal, belief or resource)?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen<\/strong> actively to each other\u2019s side. (See \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/fw\/healthy-relationship-skills\/listening\/purposeful-listening\/\">Purposeful listening<\/a>\u201d practice.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clarify<\/strong> using \u201cI\u201d messages and a calm tone.\n<ul>\n<li>Use eye contact.<\/li>\n<li>Tell the person: \u201cI have a problem\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Describe the problem or behaviour in a non-threatening way. \u00a0\u201cWhen you do this\u2026I feel\u2026&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Tell the person how you feel about the problem. \u201cI feel\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swap sides<\/strong> \u2013 think about the disagreement from both sides.\n<ul>\n<li>How would you feel?
