{"id":80,"date":"2020-02-29T15:56:22","date_gmt":"2020-02-29T20:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/emhc\/?page_id=80"},"modified":"2021-12-21T20:48:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-22T01:48:55","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/emhc\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"about-the-resource\">About the resource&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Everyday Mental Health Classroom Resource<\/em>\u00a0offers\u00a0a collection of high-quality,\u00a0everyday mental health\u202fpractices\u00a0to\u00a0enhance the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/educators\/learn-more\/explore-by-topic\/social-emotional-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\"> social-emotional learning<\/a> skills and well-being of students.\u00a0These\u00a0practices align with the Ontario curriculum and\u00a0are\u00a0easily\u00a0incorporated\u00a0into\u202fclassroom routines.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resource was produced by&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.etfo.ca\/Pages\/Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elementary Teachers&#8217; Federation of Ontario (ETFO)<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School Mental Health Ontario<\/a>.&nbsp;The practices are&nbsp;evidence-informed&nbsp;and co-created with educators&nbsp;and&nbsp;school mental health professionals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-focus-on-mental-health-at-school\">Why focus on mental health at school&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Educators&nbsp;play an important role in the lives of students.&nbsp;As&nbsp;a trusted and caring adult,&nbsp;educators&nbsp;are well positioned to&nbsp;help&nbsp;students learn about and care for their mental health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Positive mental health is foundational to academic achievement, life skills, and overall well-being.&nbsp;The relationships and connections made with students will have a positive impact on student&#8217;s mental health now and in the&nbsp;future.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/smho-smso.ca\/about-student-mental-health-in-ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\">Learn more<\/a>&nbsp;about mental health and the role of schools&nbsp;in Ontario in mental health promotion, prevention and intervention.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-social-emotional-learning\">What is social-emotional learning?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Social-emotional learning (sometimes called SEL) that is culturally responsive helps students to develop the intra- and interpersonal skills they need to flourish throughout their life. When all students in a class or school learn about and practise social and emotional skills, their sense of belonging within the classroom, school and community improves. Everyone tends to communicate in more positive and thoughtful ways, and they show respect for diversity of thought, culture, language, faith, identities and expression.
