Equity in school mental health strategic planning consultation group

At School Mental Health Ontario (SMH-ON) we are committed to equitable mental health outcomes for all students in Ontario. As we grow and develop as an organization, and as individuals, around our own understanding of equity in school mental health, we are looking to develop a multi-year strategy around equity in school mental health. As such we are putting together a strategic planning consultation group to help us vision this action-oriented strategy.

In forming this strategic planning consultation group, our goal is to bring together a diverse group of professionals from Ontario’s public education sector. We strongly encourage those who identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, live in rural communities, or are Francophone to apply.

To establish a diverse and representative strategic planning consultation group that will provide guidance and perspective on a multi-year Equity in School Mental Health strategic plan for School Mental Health Ontario.

This strategic planning consultation group will meet virtually up to 4 times from May 2021 to the end of August 2021.   Members of the group could participate in smaller working groups based on identified priorities established by the group. Most meetings will range in length form 1-2 hours.

This time limited consultation group will be comprised of a diverse group of education and school based mental health professionals with demonstrated commitment to equity in school mental health from regions all across Ontario. People who identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, living in rural communities, or Francophone are expressly encouraged to fill out the call for interest.

How to apply

Please complete the form below to express your interest.

The call for interest is open until April 23, 2021. We will be in touch with all those who have been selected by April 30, 2021.

Any questions or comments can be directed to our School Mental Health Equity Team Lead, Saleem Haniff at shaniff@smho-smso.ca

Please note that * are required items.

Please tell us a little bit about how you can contribute to the strategic planning consultation group. Feel free to include a brief summary of your work in the area of school mental health equity and how it's aligned with SMH-ON's mission, vision and values (smho-smso.ca/about-us').

We recognize diversity as a source of strength. We welcome interest from those who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing student mental health equity with a clear focus on human rights, and on reducing disproportionality and disparity in student mental health outcomes. Those with experience in serving Black and Indigenous communities, and those with identities that have been historically disadvantaged, oppressed and marginalized, will bring particular assets that are highly valued within SMH-ON and this strategic planning consultation group.

Are there aspects of your identity and lived experience that you are willing to share with this group, that give you a unique perspective regarding school mental health equity?
